Brown University Working Group on China: Michael White

Michael White's research interest in China began in the mid-1990s when he joined with (now emeritus) Prof. Sidney Goldstein in analyzing data on migrants to Hubei . This led subsequently to trips to China (with Goldstein) to consult with scholars in Beijing and Tianjin . White also had the opportunity to participate in the 1997 meeting of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population in Beijing . Since that time White has keep up work on migration and urbanization in China . These are unified by an interest in how China 's dramatic social and economic changes influence the population settlement patterns across cities and countryside. White continues to work with China group members Short, Logan, and Jiang on China topics, and well as with recent doctoral degree recipient Juhua Yang on Chinese migrants to the United States.
