Introduction:
Jiang Leiwen is trained as an environment scientist (specified in demography) with research interest in the interactions
between population dynamics and environmental changes. His recent researches include a study of the spatial linkages between
population movement and water and land resources in the Tarim River Basin of Northwest China. He also studies housing inequality
and residential segregation in urban China, facing the tremendously increasing floating population moving from the rural to
the cities. Working with Brian O’Neill, Michael Dalton, Atul Jain and others, he is trying to improve demographic components of
integrated assessment models of climate changes. One of this effort is to quantitatively simulate the impacts of urbanization on
energy consumption and land use in the developing world.
